Respond to and address guest repair requests. Communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues with little or no supervision. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication. Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machinery. Transport equipment (e.g., tools, radio). Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment and building disconnect switches. Maintain a maintenance inventory and request parts and supplies as needed. Ensure daily activities and issues are communicated to employees on other shifts using appropriate communication programs and standards. Demonstrate proficiency in any one of the following categories, above-average skill in two or more of the following categories, and basic skill in the remaining categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electricity, mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finishing, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building management. Demonstrate solid knowledge and skill in the safe use of hand and power tools and other materials required to perform repair and maintenance tasks. Demonstrate basic ability to repair or replace copper or PVC piping (including soldering). Diagnose malfunctions and perform basic repairs on all types of equipment (e.g., pump and motor replacement), plumbing (e.g., unclogging toilets and drains), electrical components including light bulbs, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, switch and outlet replacements, and other guest room items. Program televisions and perform general maintenance and engineering-related tasks. Assist with surface preparation and painting, minor drywall and woodwork repairs, light bulb and air conditioner filter replacements, and thorough cleaning of painting or repair areas. Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing maintenance work. Demonstrate practical knowledge of all engineering computer programs related to preventive maintenance, energy management, and other systems, including devices that interface with such programs. Demonstrate average proficiency in diagnosing malfunctions in the hotel’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. Demonstrate ability to train and guide other engineers (e.g., Engineer I). Demonstrate ability to perform the duties of an On-Call Engineer, including readings and rounds.
Comply with all company safety policies and procedures; report maintenance issues, safety hazards, accidents or injuries, complete safety training and certifications, and store flammable materials appropriately. Ensure both uniform and personal appearance are neat and professional, maintain property information confidentiality, and protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate guest service needs and fulfill them, assist guests with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with others and support the team in achieving common goals; listen to and respond appropriately to other employees’ concerns. Speak with others using clear and professional language. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing 50 pounds (4.5 kg) or less without assistance, as well as lift heavier weights or perform movement-intensive tasks unassisted. Climb stairs, service ramps, or ladders. Reach above the head and below the knees, including bending, twisting the waist, pulling, and stooping. Enter and locate job-related information using computers. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
Education:High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) certificate preferred, or vocational or technical training degree.
Experience:General maintenance experience, exterior and interior surface preparation, and painting experience.
At least 2 years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience.
Supervisory experience:Supervisory experience is not required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
License or certification:Valid driver’s license
Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification.
Must meet state and federal requirements regarding certification or licensing.
