The waiter serves as the establishment’s public face and bears primary responsibility for customer satisfaction. **PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** * **Customer service and table service:** * Greet customers at the restaurant or banquet hall entrance with warmth and professionalism. * Escort customers to their tables, present menus, and offer initial assistance (water, recommendations). * Accurately take food and beverage orders, paying close attention to details (cooking preferences, allergies, special requests). * Advise customers on the menu, recommending dishes, house specialties, wine pairings, or beverages. * Serve food and beverages according to establishment standards (e.g., from left/right, specific protocols). * Periodically check customer satisfaction and promptly attend to any additional requests during the meal. * Prepare and present the bill clearly, process payments (cash, card, UPI), and courteously bid farewell to customers. * **Setting up and maintaining the work area:** * Set up and clear tables according to service type (breakfast, lunch, dinner, special events). * Ensure tables, chairs, linens, tableware, cutlery, and glassware are clean, in good condition, and correctly arranged before each service. * Maintain “mise en place” (pre-service preparation): replenish salt and pepper shakers, napkins, menus, and ensure all necessary materials are ready. * Keep the sideboard (service station) clean, organized, and fully stocked (extra cutlery, napkins, sauces, etc.). * **Coordination with kitchen and other departments:** * Communicate orders clearly and promptly to kitchen staff (typically via POS—Point of Sale system). * Coordinate dish timing so all guests at a table receive their meals simultaneously. * Inform the kitchen of any incidents, complaints, or suggestions from customers regarding food. * Collaborate with bartenders, captains, and support staff to ensure seamless service. * **Cleaning and hygiene:** * Discreetly and efficiently clear tables of used plates, glasses, and cutlery. * Clean tables and chairs after each guest to prepare for the next service. * Report spills, breakages, or damages immediately for cleaning or repair. * Comply fully with hygiene and food safety regulations (clean hands, immaculate uniform, proper food handling). * **Handling complaints and suggestions:** * Actively listen to customer complaints and resolve them promptly and professionally. * Escalate complex cases requiring managerial intervention to supervisors or managers. * Collect customer suggestions and relay them to management for continuous improvement. **JOB REQUIREMENTS** (Adapted for India) * **Prior experience:** Minimum of [6 months–2 years] as a waiter, server, or in similar roles within restaurants, hotels, cafés, or banquet services.
