Job Summary: The Production Manager oversees and manages production execution, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with safety standards, while leading and training operational staff. Key Highlights: 1. Leadership and management of multi-shift production teams. 2. Ensures efficient and cost-effective production execution. 3. Implements continuous improvements in production processes. The Production Manager holds primary responsibility for executing and managing production in accordance with Nutreco’s safety standards. He/she is responsible for managing all operational/production activities to ensure that the production process is carried out in the most cost-effective and efficient manner, meeting all quality standards and requirements as well as sales commitments. The Production Manager manages all production operations within a plant across multiple shifts to ensure timely and cost-effective manufacturing of quality products. He/she integrates multi-shift production operations and processes, focusing on establishing short-term activities aimed at production continuity and balance—such as shift scheduling and guaranteeing material and ingredient requisition. The Production Manager coordinates the plant’s production environment at the operational level with other functional areas—including Supply Chain (Planning, Maintenance, Customer Service, Logistics, and Warehousing)—to align activities and ensure support toward achieving production, productivity, and quality goals. As a managerial role, the focus also lies on people management: selecting, organizing, training, and motivating production personnel (Shift Supervisors / Team Leaders, Operators) to consistently meet production schedules with optimal levels of productivity and cost. The level of the Production Manager role depends on the size and complexity of production processes and the number of FTEs managed (direct and indirect). Depending on the organization’s size and structure, the Production Manager may supervise Shift Supervisors / Team Leaders, Operators, and sometimes administrative/support staff. The Production Manager is ultimately accountable for the plant’s operational performance, maintaining operational control over the plant’s human and technical resources at all times, correcting deviations, and taking necessary actions to ensure safety, quality, service, and cost objectives. **Job Description:** **People Supervision and Management** * **Production Planning and Execution** + Manages (operational) activities at the plant within applicable Nutreco standards and procedures to achieve efficient and effective execution and delivery of results. + Coordinates production operations within a single plant utilizing common equipment, methods, and production standards across multiple shifts. + Leads unit supervisors in establishing and maintaining production schedules within established procedures and budgets. * **Leadership and People Management** * Provides leadership to their production area (e.g., setting individual goals, reviewing performance, and delivering ongoing formal or informal feedback) so all direct reports understand what they must achieve and how they are performing against their goals. * Manages and trains an operational team (e.g., organizing work shifts), motivates employees through sincere and concrete feedback, takes appropriate action when needed, fosters team cooperation and mobility, and ensures supervisors and staff are available (quantitatively and qualitatively) and willing and able to achieve set objectives. **Production Scheduling** Ensures effective production management jointly with the Production or Plant Manager by determining production priorities based on established monthly/weekly production plans; performs daily assignments to meet established standards and production plans, including cleaning and other associated production activities. o Ensures optimal staffing and organizational efficiency according to production requirements; establishes operator work schedules together with production planning provided by Planning / Supply Chain. o Conducts coordination with Maintenance to effectively align production activities with both planned and unplanned maintenance. o Establishes schedules for raw material and ingredient intake in collaboration with Procurement / Supply Chain / Warehousing to maintain appropriate inventory levels. **Quality / HSE Compliance** * Ensures all activities and operations are conducted in line with HSE/Quality rules, regulations, procedures, instructions, and guidelines, and promotes awareness thereof—including addressing anomalies with others. * Ensures compliance with safety rules and regulations to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements. Identifies potential hazardous and/or unsafe situations and takes appropriate measures in case of imminent unsafe conditions. **Reporting:** Maintains required production tracking systems and reporting to ensure an accurate, real-time view of production status at all times. o Monitors changing daily and weekly SQCDME KPIs and works jointly with the Production Manager to achieve established targets (SIM process). **Continuous Improvement** * Identifies and implements improvements in production systems, processes, and practices to enhance/optimize process effectiveness and efficiency. **Communication:** **INTERNAL** * Logistics BU team (Warehouse Manager, Transport Manager, BU Logistics Manager): warehousing, material stock control, and transportation. * Supply Planning BU team: production planning, schedule adjustments, capacity alignment. * Quality: ensuring quality guidelines are implemented at the plant, joint problem-solving, certification implementation. * HR: alignment with the HRBP assigned to the plant, policy monitoring/compliance, and staff recruitment. * Quality team: within the plant. * Raw material suppliers: on a case-by-case basis and in coordination with the Supply Planning team. **Our organisation:** Trouw Nutrition is the global leader in innovative feed specialties, premixes and nutritional services for the animal nutrition industry.
