Senior Backend Developer – Java / Spring **UK FinTech \| Open Banking \| Málaga** We are looking for a **Senior Backend Developer** to join the Málaga Engineering team of a **UK FinTech company operating within the Open Banking ecosystem**. **Location:** Málaga, Spain **Hybrid working:** 2 days per week at the office, located in **Málaga city centre** This is an opportunity to join an international engineering environment and work on highly scalable technology where **APIs, distributed systems, reliability and engineering quality** are at the heart of the product. The role As a Senior Backend Developer, you will: * Build and maintain highly scalable and secure backend applications, services and APIs. * Design and evolve **RESTful APIs** in an API\-first environment. * Work with **distributed systems and microservices**. * Collaborate closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and customer use cases. * Troubleshoot and debug complex technical and customer issues. * Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices. * Write reliable, efficient and maintainable code. * Take ownership of technical initiatives while contributing to the wider goals of the Engineering team. * Develop a strong understanding of **Open Banking, PSD2 and the financial services ecosystem**. What we're looking for * **5\+ years of professional software engineering experience.** * Strong professional experience with **Java and Spring Framework / Spring Boot**. * Solid experience working with **microservices architectures**. * Hands\-on experience with **Kubernetes**. * Experience debugging and troubleshooting **distributed systems**, ideally using distributed tracing. * Strong understanding of **RESTful API design**, including the ability to evaluate and discuss different design decisions and trade\-offs. * Experience building scalable and reliable backend systems. * An **API\-first and product\-oriented mindset** — understanding customer use cases before diving into implementation. * Ability to take ownership and drive technical initiatives independently. * Strong collaboration and communication skills. * A curious mindset and willingness to learn from and share knowledge with other engineers. * Comfortable working in a fast\-paced environment where autonomy and initiative are important. Nice to have * Previous experience with **Open Banking or PSD2**. * Experience with **reactive programming**. * Previous experience working within **FinTech or highly regulated environments**.
