This role is a high-impact position within the bank’s technology ecosystem, responsible for translating business needs into coherent, scalable solution architectures aligned with BBVA’s global standards. **The architect does not operate at the implementation level:** their value lies in systemic vision, the ability to engage with complex stakeholders, and the quality of high-level technical design. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Key responsibilities Solution architecture * Design high-level architectures covering data, integration, backend, APIs, and platform layers, ensuring end-to-end coherence. * Define architectural patterns and reference frameworks applicable across multiple initiatives or business domains. * Evaluate technology options (on-premises, public cloud, hybrid) and formulate evidence-based recommendations with trade-off analysis. * Ensure proposed architectures comply with BBVA’s standards for security, resilience, scalability, and governance. Stakeholder engagement and management * Act as the primary interface between functional teams, business areas, and the technology organization, facilitating mutual understanding between non-technical profiles and engineering teams. * Lead discovery sessions, architecture workshops, and design reviews with senior stakeholders—both internal and from product and operations areas. * Communicate architectural decisions clearly and adapt messaging to diverse audiences. Documentation and governance * Author and maintain high-quality technical and functional requirements, ensuring traceability from business need to technical solution. * Produce architecture documentation (C4 diagrams, context, integration, and data views) as reference artifacts for delivery teams. * Participate in Architecture Review Board (ARB) or equivalent internal processes, contributing cross-cutting and global perspective. Strategic vision and continuous improvement * Contribute to the evolution of the technology roadmap in coordination with the bank’s platform, data, and application domains. * Identify architectural risks, structural technical debt, and opportunities for simplification or modernization. * Stay current on financial sector trends (open banking, cloud, AI/data platforms, technology regulation) and translate their implications into design decisions. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Required profile Experience * 4\+ years of experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture, or similar high-level technical design roles. * Prior experience in highly complex organizational environments: banking, fintech, telecom, or other globally regulated industries. * Demonstrable track record of designing multi-layered solutions (integration, data, backend, cloud) within digital transformation or legacy system modernization contexts. Technical knowledge (conceptual and design-oriented, not implementation-focused) * Integration and APIs: enterprise integration patterns (EIP), event-driven architectures (EDA), API management, ESB/middleware, REST/AsyncAPI standards. * Data: high-level data architectures (data lakehouse, data mesh, streaming vs. batch), data governance, lineage, and quality. * Cloud and platform: fundamentals of multi-cloud architecture (AWS, GCP), containers and orchestration, IaC and platform engineering concepts. * Backend and applications: microservices, distributed architectures, resilience patterns (circuit breaker, saga, CQRS), DDD as a design tool. * Security: secure-by-design principles (zero trust, IAM, encryption in transit/at rest), GDPR, and financial-sector regulatory frameworks. Differentiating competencies * Experience with Google Cloud and AWS. * Abstraction and synthesis capability: ability to distill complex requirements into clear, structured solutions. * Executive communication: fluency in presenting and defending architectural proposals to non-technical audiences with autonomy and credibility. * Systems thinking and business-impact orientation—beyond technical excellence alone. * Ability to influence without hierarchical authority in matrixed and global environments. * Product mindset and value-delivery orientation, with capacity to prioritize effectively in highly ambiguous settings.
