It seems this area hosted one of the last dinosaur parties—leaving behind a colossal hangover and Europe’s most recent Late Cretaceous fossil sites. More than 300 dinosaur remains have been preserved here—including bones, eggs, and footprints. In short: if anyone showed up late to the extinction event, it was here. Pretty mind-blowing, right?\nWe’ll explore the village of Sopiera, nestled in stunning scenery between limestone cliffs and the Noguera Ribagorçana River. We’ll hike two routes in the Sant Gervás Range—a superb vantage point overlooking the Maladetas Massif, now draped in its finest winter snow coat.\nWe’ll also venture into the spectacular Pre-Pyrenean Montsec Massif—a land of stark contrasts and unfiltered landscapes. Highlights include the Mont-rebei Gorge and the jagged Finestres Peaks. Limestone formations create an intensely vertical mosaic bearing an unmistakably authentic seal of quality. Though these places draw crowds at other times of year, winter gifts us silence and space.\n\nFinestres—one of the villages depopulated after the construction of the Canelles Reservoir—will be another of our stops.
