Role Overview The Data Platform Manager is responsible for leading the Data Platform engineering team by combining data architecture leadership with team management, delivery oversight, and cross\-department coordination. This role ensures that the Data Platform evolves with a strong architectural foundation while meeting business goals, data governance standards, and long\-term platform strategy. The Manager works closely with the Tech Lead, Product Owner, Software teams, IT/Security, and the Head of Software \& Data Platform to guarantee that architecture, execution, and team performance remain aligned Key Responsibilities 1\. Technical \& Data Architecture Leadership * Own and maintain the high\-level architecture of the Data Platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise data strategy and platform standards. * Validate architectural proposals from the Tech Lead and engineers; make final decisions when tradeoffs involve performance, scalability, data consistency, or security, in alignment with the Head of Software \& Data Platform. * Collaborate with Software, IT, and infrastructure teams to ensure proper integration with data ingestion pipelines, storage layers (hot/warm/cold), processing frameworks, and access patterns. * Ensure the platform follows architectural guidelines, data models, governance standards, and long\-term evolution plans, aligned with the overall technical direction defined by the Head of Software \& Data Platform. 2\. Execution, Delivery \& Prioritization * Lead the platform delivery cycle, ensuring predictable and high\-quality output across all data services. * Oversee planning, estimation, and prioritization with the Tech Lead and Product Owner. * Monitor technical risks related to data pipelines, storage capacity, performance, and platform dependencies, initiate mitigation actions proactively. * Ensure platform stability: data availability, performance, scalability, reliability, and incident response. 3\. People Leadership \& Team Development * Provide continuous feedback, performance evaluations, and career development plans for each team member. * Identify skill gaps in data engineering, platform operations, and architecture, promoting upskilling through coaching, mentoring, and training. * Coordinate closely with P\&C for hiring, promotions, team restructuring, and salary review proposals. * Ensure a healthy team environment that fosters collaboration, accountability, and ownership. 4\. Collaboration \& Cross\-Functional Alignment * Represent the Data Platform team in discussions with Software, Product, IT, Cybersecurity, AI/ML, and other stakeholder groups. * Ensure all platform decisions remain aligned with data governance policies, security requirements, and enterprise architecture standards. * Act as escalation point when architectural, data integrity, or delivery concerns arise. * Communicate progress, risks, and decisions clearly to management and stakeholders. 5\. Governance, Compliance \& Quality * Ensure adherence to data governance policies, coding standards, documentation practices, and architectural principles (together with the Tech Lead). * Validate the platform’s compliance with security, data protection, and data lifecycle management policies. * Drive decisions related to data quality, technical debt, refactoring, and long\-term maintainability of the platform. * Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, observability, and operational readiness of all data services. Requirements and qualifications 1\. Technical Skills * Strong architectural understanding of data platforms (data pipelines, distributed processing, storage layers, data modeling, and integrations). * Experience with big data ecosystems (e.g., Spark, distributed systems), cloud and/or on\-prem environments, and data infrastructure. * Ability to model complex data flows, data lifecycle management, and platform integrations. * Experience working with CI/CD, DevOps workflows, infrastructure layers, networking, and secure data architectures. * Ability to challenge, validate, and refine technical proposals from senior engineers. 2\. Leadership \& Soft Skills * Solid experience managing engineering teams in data or platform environments. * Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non\-technical groups. * Strategic mindset combined with hands\-on technical understanding when required. * Ability to drive clarity, alignment, and accountability in complex, multi\-team environments.
