UIC Barcelona is launching a new Academic Program in Mathematics and Data Science, designed to combine solid mathematical training with the fundamental aspects of data science. The Program aims to train graduates with mathematical rigor, analytical capacity, and technological competence, capable of tackling comprehensive quantitative problems in scientific, technological, and business environments. We are currently building the academic team for this new initiative and seek highly motivated researchers wishing to contribute to the design, development, and consolidation of a high-quality, internationally oriented Mathematics and Data Science Program. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a founding academic team and actively shape the Program’s identity and academic standards. **Selection Process** In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded Universitat Internacional de Catalunya a Prize for Excellence in Human Resources for Research, ensuring that candidates are selected solely on grounds of excellence. Moreover, since 2016, we have held the HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Research) seal from the European Commission, which publicly recognizes institutions that have advanced the alignment of their human resources policies by improving employment conditions and working conditions for teaching and research staff, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of academic and scientific careers. *UIC Barcelona’s selection process includes:* * **Pre-selection Phase**: An independent committee composed of experts both internal and external to UIC Barcelona will evaluate all applications received. Its role is to identify candidates best matching the sought profile and determine who proceeds to the next phase. * **Evaluation Panel Phase**: Finalist candidates must deliver a public oral defense before an evaluation panel. This panel consists of two external faculty members and one internal faculty member. The presentation must cover the candidate’s academic trajectory, including research, teaching, and management. At the end of the presentation, the panel will ask questions to complete the evaluation. The total duration of this defense will be 60 minutes. In some cases, candidates may be requested in advance to deliver a 20-minute lecture on a specific topic during this phase. * **Competency Evaluation Phase**: This phase will be coordinated by the Center Board, which will organize a dedicated session aimed at assessing the cross-cutting and personal competencies of the two finalists. Activity design will be adapted to the candidates’ profiles and communicated in advance by the Board. * **Decision Phase**: Final selection and communication of results to candidates. We seek a full-time candidate holding a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or related disciplines, preferably with specialization in Programming, Algorithms, or Foundations of Computer Science, who will contribute to the academic development of the Programming area within the Program and participate in high-quality research activities in areas related to theoretical computer science, algorithms, data structures, or programming. The selected candidate will join the undergraduate teaching team and may teach introductory and advanced courses in: * Programming I (Python) * Programming II (C or other low-level languages) * Data Structures and Algorithms * Other courses in the Programming area (as required by the Program). **The candidate must possess:** * A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or related fields. * Postdoctoral experience. * Demonstrable experience in university-level teaching in English and Spanish. **Evaluation Criteria:** * Eligibility for official academic accreditation (AQU/ANECA). * Publications indexed in JCR (preferably Q1). Priority will be given to candidates with independent research funding or participation in research projects led by other researchers. * Proven teaching experience. (*A minimum of 200 hours of university-level teaching experience with strong student satisfaction outcomes is recommended*). * Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish. * Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in teams. * Ability to supervise and guide undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. * Knowledge of and commitment to the Christian-inspired values underpinning the university’s identity. **What We Offer:** * Full-time contract in a dynamic and international scientific environment at UIC Barcelona School of Management (Barcelona Campus). Part-time arrangements may be negotiated. * Tenure-track position with mid-term evaluation. Upon successful completion of this period and achievement of all agreed objectives and conditions, the candidate will obtain a permanent position as Associate Professor at UIC.
