Description

Summary: Seeking an innovative Staff Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and test satellite mechanical/structure subsystems and payloads for a global cellular broadband network. Highlights: 1. Work on the first and only global cellular broadband network in space 2. Design and analyze satellite mechanical/structure subsystems & payloads 3. Contribute to eliminating connectivity gaps for billions AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. **Position Overview** --------------------- We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer who will work satellite mechanical/structure subsystem \& payload non\-recurring and recurring/sustaining efforts and activities including systems engineering, design, and testing. The successful candidate will be innovative, creative, and challenge the status quo. He or she will work well in teams while also having the ability to lead a small team and to work assignments autonomously. **Key Responsibilities:** ------------------------- * Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements. * Mechanical design and modelling of electronic space equipment. Preparation of preliminary design with layouts, sketches, preliminary strength analysis to support trade studies, develop mechanisms and component technology, testing requirements, materials, processes, and tools, define mechanical interfaces with other subsystems. * Perform mechanical/structure system \& satellite payload equipment trade studies to determine optimal system architecture in terms of the system simplicity, electrical performance, mass, and cost. * Develop and maintain mechanical/structure design documentation at system and payload equipment level: mechanical analysis reports, interface control drawings, test procedures and tooling (vibration, shock, TVAC, assembly), manufacturing drawings. * Troubleshoot and investigate component anomalies and failures, perform root\-cause analysis, and provide resolution. * Develop mechanical/structure test plans and procedures, identify hardware needs, design of test set\-ups. * Technical support for production and testing of satellite structure and the associated hardware. **Qualifications** ------------------ ### **Education:** Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Higher degree is preferred. ### **Experience:** A minimum of 8 years of hands\-on experience in mechanical/structure design and analysis of spacecraft and/or other equivalent applications. ### **Preferred Qualifications:** * Strong technical skill in stress and dynamics for satellite assemblies in launch and orbital environments, including FEM computer methods using standard analytical tools and classical structural analysis methods (ANSYS). * Knowledge/experience of sine/random vibration or acoustic testing of aerospace flight hardware. **Soft Skills:** ---------------- * Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with other engineers. * Flexibility/adaptability in a fast\-paced \& dynamic environment. * Excellent English written and verbal communication skills. **Technology Stack:** --------------------- * ANSYS **Physical Requirements** ------------------------- * Ability to work in a standard office and laboratory environment. *This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed. Additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time or the scope of the job may change as needed by business demands**.* AST SpaceMobile is an Equal Opportunity, at will Employer; employment is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.
