Job Description **Publication start date:** 13/7/26 **Offer ID:** 2427 **Unit:** Vilmorin\-Mikado **Job title:** Breeding assistant (H/M) **Location:** Retamar **Contract type:** Permanent **Job description:** Role As a Pepper Breeding Assistant, you will join the Research and Genetic Improvement (Breeding) team, working closely with the Senior Pepper Breeder to develop new pepper varieties meeting the needs of growers and markets. You will participate in all stages of the breeding program, from trial planning and execution to data analysis and seed management. Main objective Contribute to the development and launch of new pepper varieties by efficiently carrying out genetic improvement activities, trial management, hybrid production, data analysis, and operational coordination—ensuring result quality and rapid market introduction of new varieties. Job description We are seeking a person passionate about agriculture and innovation to join our pepper genetic improvement team. The selected candidate will support breeding programs by actively participating in the planning, monitoring, and execution of field and greenhouse trials; collection and analysis of phenotypic and genotypic data; seed management; and coordination of hybrid production operations. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with researchers, technical staff, production teams, and other international departments to ensure proper project development and achievement of established quality, timeline, and budget objectives. This position combines fieldwork, data analysis, and activity coordination, offering a holistic view of the research and development process for new varieties. What we expect from you University degree in Agronomy, Biotechnology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, or related fields. A Master’s degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, or related disciplines is desirable. High level of English (C1\) and fluency in Spanish. Knowledge of genetics, plant breeding, statistical analysis, and data management. Advanced proficiency in computer tools, especially Excel and data analysis software. Interest in combining fieldwork and office-based work. Ability to work autonomously under technical supervision. Availability to adapt to periods of increased workload during sowing, planting, and evaluation campaigns. Willingness to undertake occasional national and international travel.
