IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state\-of\-the\-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials. **Description** The selected candidate will perform the following duties at both technical and workshop organizational levels: **Technical duties**: * Design and machining of tooling for material testing, manual and CNC cutting of composite materials, CNC machine programming, and adjustment and repair of tooling and equipment. * Design and fabrication of prototypes using polymer-matrix additive manufacturing techniques. * Development and maintenance of laboratory procedures, protocols, and instructions. * Effective support to researchers by providing technical assistance, demonstrating procedures, and collecting, preparing, and/or analyzing samples. **Workshop organization and management**: * Planning of technical activities. * Physical organization and use of workshop spaces (machinery, tools, sample storage, etc.). * Procurement of products and infrastructure required by the workshop. Contact with suppliers and management of the purchasing process. Supervision of consumables availability. * Supervision of appropriate storage of research materials in coordination with service providers (maintenance, repairs, and infrastructure improvements). * Restricted-use equipment: identification of restricted-use equipment, training, and maintenance of up-to-date records of apprentices and authorized personnel. * Compliance with health and safety regulations (in coordination with the health and safety technician): * Ensuring compliance with regulations and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE). * Waste management. * Risk assessment and identification of potential hazards. Reporting and collaborating in accident investigations and risk assessments. To carry out these duties, the candidate will interact with project management, technical and research staff, technical coordination, infrastructure/maintenance managers, the occupational health and safety (OHS) manager, and suppliers. **Requirements** **Academic qualifications:** * Higher vocational training degree in Machining Production (or equivalent). **Professional experience:** * Minimum 5 years’ experience as a laboratory technician and in managing a workshop of similar characteristics. * Prior laboratory experience in research institutions within a multinational and multicultural environment. * Previous experience in processing metallic alloys and polymer-matrix composite materials. * Experience in machining Ni\-Ti superalloys, metallic alloys for aerospace and automotive applications, and composite materials—both using machine tools and manual tools. * Experience in electrical discharge machining (EDM). * Experience operating 3D printers (Prusa, Ultimaker, MakerBot, etc.). * Experience in TIG welding of steels, stainless steels, and aluminum. **Languages:** * English minimum level B1\. **Technical skills:** Advanced user of: * Microsoft Office, preferably Office 365, especially Excel, Word, and Teams. * Fusion 360\. * Aspire CAD\-CAM. * MACH 3\. * FIKUS W2X, W4X. * Additive manufacturing slicing software (PrusaSlicer and Cura). ***Submission of all required documents is mandatory.*** **Conditions** Indefinite-term contract funded under the 2025 replacement quota authorized by the Department of Economy, Finance and Employment of the Community of Madrid.
