Position Summary: We are seeking a Senior AS400 Technician/Developer to lead the technological migration from IBM i to SAP within a leading food distribution company, analyzing legacy systems and proposing scalable solutions. Role with high autonomy and decision-making authority DESCRIPTION A Senior AS400 Technician/Developer is required to join a strategic technological migration project from IBM i (AS400\) to SAP at one of Spain’s leading companies in the food distribution sector, with extensive territorial presence and an established supermarket network. The professional will be responsible for the technical analysis of the current RPG-based system, identifying dependencies, data structures, batch processes, and existing business logic, aiming to facilitate a controlled transition to the new SAP environment. They will actively participate in evaluating integration alternatives, defining connection mechanisms between AS400 and SAP during the coexistence period of both systems, and optimizing queries and processes developed using embedded SQL. This is a senior profile with deep analytical capability regarding legacy systems, structural vision of functional and technical architecture, and autonomy to propose efficient, scalable, and organizationally aligned solutions consistent with the company’s technological transformation strategy. The position is fully remote, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30\. REQUIREMENTS **Essential Experience and Technical Knowledge** * Minimum 5 years’ experience in development and maintenance on IBM i (AS400\) platform. * Advanced proficiency in RPG Free. * Solid experience in RPG III / RPG IV (legacy versions). * Proficiency in embedded SQL within RPG (complex queries, joins, subqueries, performance optimization). * Knowledge of DB2/400 (physical and logical structures, indexes, data access optimization). * Experience in technical analysis of legacy applications. * Ability to interpret existing code and document business processes. * Experience in batch processing and job management on AS400\. **Desirable** * Experience in technological migration or transformation projects (AS400 to SAP or other ERPs). * Knowledge of system integration (interfaces, data exchange, intermediate processes). * Experience in high-volume transactional environments. * Functional knowledge in logistics, distribution, or retail domains. **Professional Competencies** * Strong analytical ability and structural system vision. * Technical autonomy and decision-making capability. * Proactivity and continuous improvement orientation. * Ability to operate effectively in technological transition environments. * Strong technical communication and documentation skills.
