It is also very important that you do not occupy a spot if you do not plan to come.** Hello and welcome to our next Sócrates Café philosophy meetup! Do you desire a deeper understanding of yourself and the world? Do you value deep, honest, and respectful dialogue? If so, this gathering will be very interesting for you. 1. WHERE DO WE MEET? Every Tuesday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM (the other sessions are in English). 3. HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTEND? Up to 25 people. Meetings start at 7:30 PM. Please arrive on time. We will begin promptly. 4. WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE MEETINGS? In each meeting, we have a discussion using the Socratic method: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method We ask, answer, and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and broaden our perspectives with concepts and thoughts we've never considered before. The main goal of these gatherings is to enrich ourselves with others' perspectives, not to convince others of our own views. Our meetings focus on our personal philosophies of life, not necessarily what great philosophers or academics have said or written. This is not a debate club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we emphasize questioning, having an open mind, and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the opinions shared by others. A Socrates Café meeting is considered successful when participants leave the discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning. 5. WHAT TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP? Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. Then we vote and choose the most popular topic of that event for discussion. No academic background in philosophy is required; only enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and viewpoints. Some examples of topics chosen in previous meetings: * What ideals are worth dying for? * Why are we never satisfied? * Why are human beings aware that society is going wrong and leaders are well informed, yet things continue as they are? * Is identity necessary? * What is ethical price and greed? * What is post-truth? * How can people in democratic societies be so obsessed with power? (Desire to be different, better, stronger than others). * What is friendship? 6. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THIS MEETUP? Anyone is more than welcome to join our gatherings. Our events bring together people from different backgrounds and cultures, and having a philosophical background is not mandatory. Our regular participants are people who desire a deeper understanding of themselves and the world—people who value deep, honest, and respectful dialogue.
