IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state\-of\-the\-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials. **Description** The selected candidate will be required to perform the following tasks at both technical and workshop management levels: **Technical responsibilities**: * Design and machining of tooling for material testing, cutting composite materials manually and using CNC machines, programming CNC machines, adjusting and repairing tooling and equipment. * Design and fabrication of prototypes using polymer matrix additive manufacturing techniques. * Develop and maintain laboratory procedures, protocols and instructions. * Effectively support researchers by providing technical assistance, demonstrating procedures, and collecting, preparing and/or analyzing samples. **Workshop management and organization**: * Planning of technical activities. * Physical organization and use of workshop spaces (machinery, tools, sample storage, etc.) * Purchasing of products and infrastructure required by the workshop. Contact with suppliers and purchase process management. Monitor availability of consumables. * Supervise proper storage of research materials in coordination with service providers (maintenance, repairs and infrastructure improvements) * Restricted-use equipment: identify restricted-use equipment, train users and maintain an updated record of trainees and authorized personnel. * Compliance with health and safety regulations (in coordination with the health and safety technician): * Ensure compliance with regulations and correct use of PPE. * Waste management * Assess and identify potential risks. Report and collaborate in accident investigations and risk assessments. To perform their duties, the candidate will need to interact with project management teams, technical and research staff, technical coordination, infrastructure/maintenance managers, the occupational health and safety officer, as well as suppliers. **Requirements** **Academic background:** * Higher vocational training cycle in Machining Production (or equivalent). **Professional experience:** * Minimum of 5 years of experience as a laboratory technician and managing a workshop of similar characteristics. * Similar laboratory experience within research institutions in a multinational and multicultural environment. * Prior experience in processing metallic alloys and polymer matrix composite materials. * Experience in machining Ni\-Ti superalloys, metallic alloys for aerospace and automotive applications, and composite materials using machine tools and manual tools. * Experience in electrical discharge machining (EDM). * Experience operating 3D printers (Prusa, Ultimaker, Makerbot, etc.) * Experience in TIG welding on steels, stainless steels, and aluminum. **Languages:** * Minimum English level B1. **Technical skills:** Advanced user of: * Microsoft Office, preferably Office 365, especially Excel, Word and Teams. * Fusion 360\. * Aspire CAD\-CAM. * MACH 3\. * FIKUS W2X, W4X. * Additive manufacturing slicing software (PrusaSlicer and Cura). ***Submission of all required documents is mandatory.*** **Conditions** Indefinite contract funded through the 2025 replacement rate authorized by the Department of Economy, Finance and Employment of the Community of Madrid.
