The Institute for Catalan Studies (IEC) is an academic institution whose purpose is advanced scientific research, especially concerning all aspects of Catalan culture. Founded in 1907 by Enric Prat de la Riba, it serves as the authoritative regulatory body for the Catalan language as a whole, aiming to function as the academic reference for the Catalan language and culture, advise public authorities, and exert social influence through reflection, rigor, and independence of judgment. The Standardization Office is responsible for disseminating linguistic norms and providing linguistic advisory services; it also supports the Standardization Commission of the Philological Section, whose duties include studying the standard language and its relationship with variation and prescriptive guidelines in normative recommendations, updating the Catalan Orthography, establishing the orthoepic doctrine of the Catalan language, and other normative and para-normative projects. A full-time linguistic technician is required for the Standardization Office of the Philological Section. IEC seeks to hire an assistant linguistic technician who, under the direction of the Standardization Office’s supervisors, will collaborate on various tasks related to linguistic advisory services and dissemination of linguistic norms, as well as internal documentation management within the Office. Main functions and responsibilities: • Manage the historical archive of linguistic queries. • Collaborate on linguistic advisory tasks (e.g., searching reference sources, conducting in-depth analysis of reference works, etc.). • Participate in activities promoting linguistic norms (e.g., analyzing normative sources, assisting in preparing materials, etc.). • Review documentation from the Standardization Office and begin drafting reports. * Catalan Philology * Bachelor's degree – Translation and Interpretation * Applied Languages * Catalan (spoken and written at an advanced level) * Competencies / knowledge: Postgraduate or master’s education in linguistic advisory services will be considered an asset. • Hold a bachelor’s, postgraduate, or master’s degree in Catalan philology, linguistics, translation and interpretation, or applied languages, completed within the last three years. • Have no prior training contract under the same qualification lasting more than six months. • Have no prior professional experience as a linguistic technician in any of its specializations. * Temporary employment contract (6 months) * Full-time position * Gross monthly salary of 1428 * Additional relevant information: • Training contract aimed at acquiring professional practice experience, lasting 6 months, with an expected start date of 1 October. • Weekly working hours: 37.5, scheduled during morning and afternoon shifts, in-person mode. Selection procedure and deadlines: Applications received will be evaluated by a specially constituted selection committee. Pre-selected candidates will proceed to a second phase involving interviews conducted by the selection committee. The selection process will take place during September. Within this process, IEC may request documentary proof of the requirements and merits claimed by applicants.
