Description
Loyola University is a Jesuit university and the first private university in Andalusia. It belongs to an international network of over 193 Jesuit universities across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Its mission is to educate individuals for others—people capable of improving the world we live in from diverse academic and professional fields.
Today, Loyola University ranks as the Andalusian university with:
* The highest graduate (13th in Spain) and postgraduate (5th in Spain) employability rates.
* The highest academic performance among undergraduate programs (17th in Spain) and second-highest among postgraduate programs (34th in Spain).
* The highest degree of internationalization (+240 agreements with universities worldwide and membership in an international network of +190 Jesuit universities across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania).
* The most international and youngest faculty, with the largest number of active six-year research qualifications (sexenios) in Spain.
Loyola University is recruiting a **Research Assistant to develop a highly technically complex doctoral thesis focused on designing a foundational generative AI model for complex physical systems**, where the laws of thermodynamics are incorporated as an intrinsic property of the latent space via topological regularization and the GENERIC formalism.
**Job Responsibilities**
The predoctoral researcher will design, implement, and validate geometric deep learning architectures (VAEs, Transformers, and GNNs) that inherently respect conservation laws and irreversibility principles. Additionally, they will be responsible for pre-training the model using large-scale multi-physics datasets and subsequently fine-tuning it for specific applications. Thus, their primary research-related responsibilities include:
* Design and implementation of generative architectures with thermodynamic regularization of the latent space (symplectic and metric operators).
* Integration of Graph Neural Networks and physics-informed attention mechanisms to capture both local and long-range dependencies.
* Generation, curation, and preprocessing of synthetic multi-physics datasets for foundational training.
* Training, validation, and comparative analysis against existing models (PINNs, conventional GNNs, ML-based ROMs).
* Development of fine-tuning strategies and generalization evaluation on specific problems (e.g., plasticity and biomechanics).
Cross-cutting, these responsibilities will be complemented by the following tasks:
* Specialized literature review.
* Writing of scientific articles and technical documentation.
* Participation in national and international conferences.
* Development of tools and libraries ensuring model reproducibility.
Finally, upon request by the Research Assistant and in accordance with current regulations, teaching duties in courses related to their field of study and research may be assigned, provided such duties do not interfere with thesis development.
**Loyola University offers:**
* Predoctoral contract as a Research Assistant.
* Annual gross salary: €18.876.
