Your role as an engineer in this area will be to ensure our automated systems operate perfectly so our customers receive their orders on time. Through comprehensive analysis of data—from control systems, sensors, and other components—you will help maximize equipment availability across our facilities. In this role, you will play a critical part in solving complex productivity challenges by leveraging Amazon’s emerging technologies. Key job responsibilities * Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with the most critical systems. * Collaborate with the EU Controls network to monitor metrics for material handling equipment (MHE). * Facilitate visualization of problem-resolution data for internal stakeholders. * Take initiative or actively participate in continuous improvement projects led by the EU Controls network. * Work across departments to ensure all systems are properly documented and backed up. * Collaborate with team members worldwide to install and commission new equipment. * Support other sites within the EU Controls network as needed. * Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, and plan code improvement strategies in accordance with IEC 61131\-3\. A day in the life As an Automation Engineer, you will be the site’s subject matter expert responsible for ensuring optimal performance of key automated systems. You will work with our automation machinery—from conveyor belts to sorting systems—and ensure they operate efficiently. If something has gone wrong or could be improved, you will take the initiative to propose and implement a solution. You will also share your knowledge with your team. You will ensure engineering technicians stay current on device troubleshooting and preventive maintenance control training, enabling your team to keep our automation systems operating at peak performance. About the team Our Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team ensures our systems run at full capacity. We are distinguished by strong technical aptitude and excellent teamwork skills, led by experienced managers. Our work includes maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment across Amazon’s global network of fulfillment centers. The team includes leadership roles overseeing the development of fascinating technologies—some of which exist only at Amazon. Our team handles most technical aspects of Amazon operations, performing tasks ranging from installing automated packaging systems to overseeing general facility maintenance or repairing critical distribution equipment. This includes adapting buildings to comply with applicable regulations, ensuring staff safety and maximizing facility efficiency. Like other Amazon departments, the RME team offers numerous opportunities for professional growth. All our work centers on minimizing downtime at Amazon’s critical operations centers so customers receive their orders on time. We frequently work overnight or late at night to perform maintenance with minimal disruption, meaning we work rotating night shifts. If we identify a better way to do something, we have both the capability and opportunity to develop and introduce entirely new processes or cutting-edge technologies—such as Amazon Robotics and our complex item sorter.**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS** ------------------------ * High school diploma or equivalent. * Relevant experience in PLC-controlled automation and troubleshooting in a continuous process or production environment. * Relevant experience supporting various conveyance and sortation systems. * Relevant experience in material handling, flow visualization, capacity analysis, and monitoring. * Experience with at least one of the following tools: * o Microsoft Office, project management tools, and EPLAN. * o Ladder logic and programming of Siemens, Allen\-Bradley, or Codesys programmable logic controllers. * o Ignition SCADA or similar platform and human\-machine interface (HMI). * o Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, AS\-i, or other fieldbus networks. * o Variable frequency drives (VFDs), safety gateways, and input/output devices. * Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken. **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- * Preferred qualifications are a plus but not required to apply for this position. If you meet the basic qualifications listed above, we would love to meet you. * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, or another technical discipline. * Professional experience with ISO 13849 and ISO 62061\. * Professional experience in multi-site environments. * Experience managing projects using various methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall. * Experience with Six Sigma methodology, data analysis, or process improvement techniques.
