The incumbent of this position provides leadership and guidance in nursing care to support staff in delivering comprehensive occupational health nursing services, as well as preventive and therapeutic medical care, including occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses. Uses professional skills to perform physical examinations, including but not limited to obtaining personal and work histories, measuring vital signs, performing special procedures, requesting laboratory analyses and other medical tests according to the patient's work history. Manages cases of occupational injuries and illnesses. Assists departments in return-to-work programs and disability case management. Communicates test results to patients, explaining technical information in everyday language. Interprets test results to detect deviations from normal values and distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of physical, emotional, or mental problems. Acts as a technical expert in medical surveillance programs for all professional and support staff, worker enrollment in such programs, and integration of medical surveillance elements from Law 31/1995 on Occupational Risk Prevention into NAVOSH programs. Utilizes electronic medical record systems, including but not limited to MHS GENESIS, the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS) database, and Enterprise Safety Application Management Systems (ESAMS). Develops medical care and preventive service protocols for employees, including counseling on healthy lifestyles, wellness programs, medical surveillance, and physical job requirements, using health education and training resources. Conducts or supervises preliminary assessments, screening tests, and laboratory analyses for all required physical exams. Ensures that required tests, such as audiograms, vision tests, and pulmonary function tests, are performed according to required standards. Provides nursing and health services to employees regarding their work-related risks and work environment. Refers patients to the specialist physician in occupational medicine when the scope of diagnosis and treatment exceeds standardized medical protocols or safe nursing practices. Participates in the review, development, and implementation of preventive health education programs and provides advice for injury and illness prevention and health maintenance.
