Its Mediterranean Cooperation Centre (IUCN\\-Med), based in Malaga (Spain), serves as a regional hub for countries in the northern and southern Mediterranean. It works to preserve ecosystems and improve living conditions across the region: www.iucn.org/mediterranean. \n\nCivil society organizations (CSOs) play a key role in implementing local conservation initiatives, climate change adaptation, and community mobilization. Since 2011 and the socio\\-political changes in the region, their role has strengthened, with increasing institutional recognition, gradual network structuring, and growing expertise. However, they continue to face numerous challenges: limited technical capacities, restricted access to funding, incomplete recognition in public policies, and lack of coordination among stakeholders. \n\n \n\nSince 2014, IUCN Med has made supporting civil society in North Africa one of its strategic priorities through a flagship initiative: Mubadarat (an Arabic word meaning \"initiatives\"). December 2025 CONTEXT The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is one of the largest and oldest global organizations dedicated to nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. Its Mediterranean Cooperation Centre (IUCN\-Med), based in Malaga (Spain), serves as a regional hub for countries in the northern and southern Mediterranean. It works to preserve ecosystems and improve living conditions across the region: www.iucn.org/mediterranean. Civil society organizations (CSOs) play a key role in implementing local conservation initiatives, climate change adaptation, and community mobilization. Since 2011 and the socio\-political changes in the region, their role has strengthened, with increasing institutional recognition, gradual network structuring, and growing expertise. Mubadarat aims to strengthen, connect, and increase the visibility of CSOs working for biodiversity and sustainable development in the Mediterranean region. Through Mubadarat, IUCN Med seeks to foster the emergence of a strong, structured, and influential civil society in biodiversity conservation and local socio\-economic development in the Mediterranean by: Strengthening CSOs’ professionalism through sustainable capacity enhancement Financial empowerment by improving access to appropriate funding and diversifying resources Strengthening the associative fabric by facilitating collaboration among CSOs and with strategic partners Improving participation in environmental governance through better institutional integration of CSOs into regional and national decision-making processes Knowledge consolidation and dissemination to structure learning, improve practices, and highlight successful experiences Within this framework, IUCN Med is opening an internship position to support the Mubadarat team in managing civil society-led conservation projects, communication, monitoring and evaluation, and event management.
