This position reports to: Operations Manager **Your Role and Responsibilities** In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. You will have the opportunity to support engineering and service activities across projects of all sizes and complexities, under the supervision of senior engineers. Each day, you will complete tasks cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards. You will also showcase your expertise by collecting data and supporting the production of engineering designs. Work model: #LI-hybrid This role contributes to the Process Automation Energy business / Engineering and Service in Madrid, Spain. Main stakeholders are Operations, Engineering, and Service groups. You will be mainly accountable for: * Working in application engineering/development for any DCS * Participating in meetings focused on assigned project activities, quality deliverables, and problem resolution * Programming, implementing, testing, and documenting process control applications * System start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support * Loop-testing, system energization and functional testing, and putting installations into operation with the customer * Reading and interpreting P&IDs, instrument loop sheets, cause-and-effect diagrams, and control narratives to develop application software * Assisting customers with aftermarket service * Producing work packages and commissioning procedures * Performing installation work as required * Training customers to operate ABB’s delivered systems Our teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Being part of our team means your work matters—because the progress we make here creates real impact out there. **Qualifications for the Role** * A bachelor’s degree in Automation/Industrial Engineering, with focus on process automation across different industry sectors such as power generation, chemicals, water, etc. * 2+ years of hands-on experience in process automation systems, particularly in application engineering, HMI engineering, third-party communication interfaces, FAT, and SAT for process automation * Knowledge of DCS/ICS industry standards and specifications * Experience in design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of DCS/ICS applications * Ability to work on multi-disciplinary projects * Decision-making, leadership, time management, and organizational skills * Good working knowledge of networks, IT/OT systems, and cybersecurity * Good understanding of common OT protocols such as Modbus, IEC 104, OPC, IEC 61850, etc. * Experience with ICS systems like DCS/PCS, ESD, and F&G * Familiarity with ABB systems (800xA, Symphony Plus, SG400, AC400, AC800M, Infi90, AC500) or equivalent systems * Engineering applications using IEC-61131-3 languages (FB, ST, SFC) * Demonstrated experience in engineering, integrating, configuring, testing, and validating ICS systems developed in an orderly and efficient manner, applying knowledge and optimizing the solution to be installed * Willingness to travel approximately 40% * Spanish and English language proficiency required; additional languages are a plus We want you to bring your full self to work—your ideas, your energy, your ambition.
