About the Role We’re looking for a motivated, creative, and pragmatic Engineering Manager to lead our Platform and Firmware teams, enabling high\-performing engineering teams through strong people leadership, career development, and operational excellence. In this role, you’ll ensure teams are aligned with Fresco’s product roadmap, operate with clarity and purpose, and consistently deliver sustainable business value. Based in While we prefer candidates based in Dublin or Madrid (with occasional travel between both locations)., we embrace . remote work and welcome applicants from anywhere in Ireland, Spain, or Portugal. This role reports to the VP of Engineering, based in Madrid, and requires close collaboration with engineering leadership to drive alignment, improve developer experience, and scale our platform. Your Responsibilities * Guide career development, performance management, and promotion processes for direct reports * Partner with VP of Engineering and the Platform Principal Engineer on headcount planning, recruitment, and onboarding * Oversee team delivery against objectives, ensuring alignment with the product and system roadmap * Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support team members’ growth and well\-being * Foster technical collaboration and decision\-making across teams and with other stakeholders * Serve as a communication bridge, cascading company goals and feedback across levels * Protect team time, reduce distractions, and advocate for healthy team dynamics and culture * Monitor and improve team productivity and performance through meaningful metrics * Collaborate with other engineering leads and people managers to align ways of working * Contribute technically when needed (0–20% of time), including acting as Team Lead in transitional periods * Lead and refine development processes, team rituals, and delivery workflows * Champion team visibility, recognition, and cross\-functional collaboration Your Experience * 4\+ years of experience in backend software development specially using the Python ecosystem. Experience on embedded systems, firmware or system\-level software development is a plus. * 3\+ years of people management experience, having led engineering teams of at least 5 to 10 engineers. * Familiarity with software engineering principles, developer experience, and observability for platform reliability * Background in industries such as IoT, automotive, or industrial systems where firmware and platform integration are critical is a plus. Your Skills * Strong understanding of AWS and serverless architectures using AWS Lambda, DynamoDB and API Gateway. * Proficiency in Python and its ecosystem. Knowledge of Go and/or C is a plus. * Ability to engage in technical discussions, review designs, and assess risks in both firmware and platform contexts * Proven ability to coach, mentor, and grow engineers in technical and career dimensions * Experience conducting 1:1s, setting team goals, and delivering feedback that drives improvement * Strong organizational skills to manage multiple teams, priorities, and dependencies * Experience aligning team objectives with product roadmap and business goals * Excellent communication skills to bridge technical teams, product, and executive stakeholders Expectations **In the first 3 months**: * Gain a solid understanding of Fresco’s engineering culture, product roadmap, and organizational structure * Build strong relationships with your direct reports, peer engineering leads and people managers, and key stakeholders * Understand team dynamics, individual career goals, performance levels, and current ways of working * Become familiar with team delivery workflows, development processes, and productivity metrics * Begin conducting effective 1:1s, providing feedback, and supporting team members’ growth * Operate independently in day\-to\-day people management and team operations **By 6 months**: * Fully own your responsibilities and areas of influence, including performance management, career development, and team delivery * Proactively identify opportunities to improve team effectiveness, collaboration, and morale * Assess team performance objectively, provide actionable feedback, and drive performance improvements * Contribute to cross\-team alignment and engineering\-wide initiatives * Demonstrate impact through successful delivery, team stability, and positive feedback from reports and peers * Begin shaping team strategy, headcount planning, and technical roadmap input What's it like working at Fresco?
