What Is a Teller Job in 2026? Key Skills and Responsibilities Explained

A teller job is essentially the front-line role in a bank or credit union where you handle customer transactions like deposits, withdrawals, and check cashing. But it’s much more than counting cash – it’s the foundation of retail banking. In 2026, the role has evolved to include digital literacy and fraud detection , as banks push for self-service kiosks while still relying on human interaction for complex needs. I started as a teller right out of high school, and honestly, it taught me more about money management than any class. The core duties are straightforward: process transactions accurately, balance your cash drawer at the end of the day, and answer basic customer questions about account balances or fees. However, the real skill is building trust with regulars. You learn to spot counterfeit bills, identify suspicious activity, and even cross-sell products like savings accounts or credit cards. Most banks now require tellers to be comfortable with tablets and mobile apps because customers often ask for help setting up online banking. The pay is decent – around $16–$20 an hour in most US markets – and it’s a great stepping stone to become a personal banker or loan officer. If you’re detail-oriented and enjoy talking to people, it’s a solid entry point into finance. The stress comes from handling large sums of money and dealing with impatient customers, but the routine is predictable once you get the hang of it. Skill Importance Example Cash handling High Counting $5,000 in mixed bills under time pressure Customer service High Explaining overdraft fees without confusing the client Attention to detail Critical Catching a $20 discrepancy before the drawer closes Digital literacy Growing Assisting elderly customers with mobile deposit

What Is a Transcriber Job and How to Land One in 2026?

A transcriber job is basically about converting audio or video recordings into written text . It sounds simple, but it requires strong listening skills, fast and accurate typing, and a good grasp of grammar and punctuation. In the recruitment context, this role is often vital for industries like legal, medical, media, and market research. For example, in hiring, transcribers might work on interview recordings, focus group discussions, or even create captions for employer branding videos. I’ve seen many people assume transcription is just typing what you hear, but it’s much more. You need to handle different accents, background noise, and technical jargon. Speed and accuracy are the two pillars – most professional transcribers aim for 60–80 words per minute with 99% accuracy. Employers often test candidates on these skills during the hiring process. Here’s a quick look at what typical transcription requirements look like in job postings: Skill / Requirement Common Expectation Typing speed 60+ WPM Accuracy 98–99% Audio quality handling Experience with unclear recordings Software proficiency Express Scribe, oTranscribe, or foot pedal use Turnaround time 24–48 hours for standard projects If you’re considering this career path, know that remote opportunities are plentiful. Many companies hire freelance transcribers, while others offer full-time roles with benefits. The key is to build a portfolio and maybe get a certification from a recognized institution like the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) for medical transcription. The job market for transcribers is steady, though AI is changing some aspects – but human transcribers are still preferred for complex, nuanced content.

What Is a Temporary Job Called in 2026? A Comprehensive Guide to Temp Work Terminology

I’ve been job hunting since graduation, and the term “temporary job” comes up a lot. In the recruitment world, it’s most commonly called a temp job or temporary assignment . But there are several other names depending on the industry and duration. For example, contract work usually refers to roles lasting a few months to a year, often with a specific end date. Freelance or gig work is shorter-term, project-based, and common in creative or tech fields. Seasonal employment is tied to holidays or harvest seasons. On-call work means you’re only brought in when needed, like in retail or healthcare. Internships are often temporary, but they’re meant for students or recent grads to gain experience. Fixed-term contracts are legal terms used in many countries for jobs with a set expiration. I’ve also heard temporary staffing , temp-to-perm , and day labor for manual jobs. The key is to match the name to the work arrangement because each term implies different benefits, stability, and legal protections. For example, temp jobs often go through staffing agencies, while freelance means you’re self-employed. Knowing these labels helps me target my search and understand what to expect from pay, schedule, and career growth. I recently took a temp-to-hire role at a marketing firm, where I’m on a 3-month contract with the possibility of moving to full-time. It’s a great way to get my foot in the door. The table below outlines common temporary job categories I’ve encountered: Type Typical Duration Common Industries Benefits Temp/Staffing Days to months Office, logistics, hospitality Flexible schedule, agency support Contract 3–12 months IT, healthcare, engineering Higher pay, no long-term commitment Freelance/Gig Hours to weeks Writing, design, development Control over projects, tax complexities Seasonal 2–6 months Retail, tourism, agriculture Clear end date, possible overtime So, if you’re wondering what to call a temporary job, just use “temp job” as the umbrella term—it’s widely understood.

What Is a Transcript When Applying for a Job and Why Does It Matter in 2026?

Well, a transcript is basically your official academic record from a school or university. When you're applying for a job, especially one that requires a certain degree or specific coursework, this document is absolutely crucial. It’s not just a list of classes you took; it’s a detailed, certified document that shows the courses you completed , the grades you earned , and your overall Grade Point Average (GPA) . Think of it as the gold standard for verifying your educational background . Employers ask for it to confirm that you actually have the degree you claim to have on your resume. They also use it to check if you performed well in subjects relevant to the job. For example, if you're applying for a financial analyst role, they might look closely at your grades in accounting, finance, and statistics. A strong transcript can be a powerful differentiator, especially for entry-level positions or internships where you don't have a ton of work experience yet. There are two main types you'll encounter: an official transcript and an unofficial transcript . The official one is sent directly from your school’s registrar’s office, usually in a sealed envelope or through a secure electronic system. It’s the only one that’s considered fully verified. An unofficial transcript is a copy you can print out or download from your student portal, and it’s often used for initial screening. Either way, it’s a key piece of the candidate screening process that helps employers make a fair and informed decision. It’s not just a formality; it’s a core part of proving your qualifications.

What Is a Transcript for a Job Application in 2026?

A transcript for a job application is an official academic record that lists every course you took, the grades you received, and your overall GPA or class rank. It is issued directly by your school’s registrar, usually with a watermark or seal, to prove its authenticity. Think of it as the verified version of your education history —while your resume lists your degree, the transcript shows the actual coursework and performance behind it. In the recruitment world, transcripts are most commonly required for entry-level roles, internships, graduate programs, and positions in regulated industries like finance, engineering, and healthcare. Employers use them to verify that you meet the minimum GPA threshold, completed prerequisite courses, and graduated from an accredited institution. For example, if a job asks for “strong quantitative skills,” a recruiter will check your transcript for math or statistics grades rather than just taking your word for it. There are two main types you might encounter: Type Description Use Case Official Transcript Sealed, signed, sent directly by the school. Used for final verification before hiring. Unofficial Transcript Downloaded or printed by you, may lack seals. Used for initial screening by recruiters. Why this matters for your job search : Submitting an accurate transcript shows you are transparent and organized. If you have a lower GPA, focus on upward trends or strong grades in relevant major courses. Many employers understand that a single number doesn’t define you, but they use the transcript as a screening filter to manage large applicant pools. Always check the job posting carefully—some will say “transcripts required,” while others will accept a resume alone. If you are unsure, it is better to ask the recruiter directly than to leave out a key document.
